Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice/water while you prepare the cocktail to thoroughly chill.

2

Measure and combine

Add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz triple sec (Cointreau), 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz cranberry juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional for added sweetness) into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and frost forms. This both chills and dilutes the drink appropriately.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass with ice/water, empty it now. If you used the freezer, remove the glass and set it on the bar or counter.

5

Strain and serve

Strain the shaken mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or the shaker's built-in strainer into the chilled coupe or martini glass to remove small ice chips and ensure a clean presentation.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel (or lime peel) over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down over the surface and giving it a quick twist, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink as a garnish.

7

Optional adjustments

If the cocktail tastes too tart, add another 0.25 oz simple syrup and lightly stir; if too sweet, add 0.25 oz additional fresh lime juice and shake briefly with ice to re-chill.
