Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Pour the teaspoon of salt onto a small plate. Run the lime wedge around the outside rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then lightly dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz silver tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice (or 0.5 oz orange liqueur if you prefer a sweeter, more aromatic profile), and 0.5 tsp agave nectar.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Add approximately 1 cup of ice to the shaker (enough to chill and dilute properly). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Strain and serve

Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice or a large ice cube(s). Double-strain the cocktail into the glass to remove any small ice chips and pulp (use a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer).

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils from the remaining lime wedge over the drink, then drop the wedge onto the rim or into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately.

  6. 6

    Notes

This 'skinny' version uses minimal agave (0.5 tsp) to keep calories lower while maintaining balance. Adjust agave up to 1 tsp if you prefer sweeter. Use freshly squeezed juices for best flavor.
