Method

Tea

1

Boil water

Measure 2 cups (about 480 ml) of fresh cold water and pour into a kettle or small saucepan. Heat until just below boiling — aim for 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you do not have a thermometer, bring to a boil and then remove from heat and let rest 1 minute.

2

Warm teapot or cup (optional)

Pour a small amount of the hot water into the teapot or cup, swirl to warm the vessel, then discard the warming water. This helps maintain brewing temperature.

3

Steep tea

Place 1 tablespoon of loose green tea leaves into an infuser or use one tea bag. Pour the hot water (175–185°F / 80–85°C) over the leaves or bag. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes for a light, fresh flavor; steep up to 3.5 minutes for a slightly stronger cup. Avoid steeping longer than 4 minutes to prevent bitterness.

4

Remove leaves

Remove the tea bag or infuser, or strain the leaves from the teapot into your cup to stop the extraction.

5

Sweeten and finish (optional)

If desired, stir in up to 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar to taste while the tea is still warm. Add a slice of lemon if you like a citrus note; squeeze the lemon slice lightly into the tea and drop it in.

6

Serve

Serve immediately while warm. Enjoy plain or with light sweetening and lemon as preferred.
