add Bloody Mary mix and locally pickled veggies to your choice of any beer

If you want a salted rim, rub the lemon or lime wedge around the outer rim of a pint glass, then dip the rim into a small plate of coarse salt or celery salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

Salt the rim (optional)

If using, place 1–2 ice cubes in the bottom of the glass. Note: many prefer the Red Beer served without ice to preserve beer carbonation—add ice only if you want a colder, more diluted drink.

In a measuring cup or small pitcher, combine 3 oz Bloody Mary mix, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 2 dashes hot sauce, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Stir or whisk briefly to integrate flavors.

Taste the mix and adjust: add additional hot sauce for heat, more Worcestershire for umami, or extra lemon if you want brighter acidity. Keep the final mix savory and slightly spicy — it will be cut by the beer.

Pour the 12 oz beer slowly into the prepared glass at a slight angle to minimize foam, filling about three-quarters full.

Gently pour or float the 3 oz Bloody Mary mix on top of the beer. Pour slowly down the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon so the mix overlays without creating excessive foam, then stir gently once or twice to create a marbled red appearance (do not vigorously stir or you will lose carbonation).

Garnish with the celery stalk and thread or skewer the assortment of 2–3 pickled vegetables and rest them on the rim or drop them into the glass. Add the lemon/lime wedge on the rim.

Serve immediately with a straw or cocktail pick. Encourage the drinker to give it a light stir before sipping to blend flavors if desired.

Beer selection: a lighter lager or an amber ale works best — avoid overly bitter IPAs or flavored stouts which may clash with the Bloody Mary mix. For more body, use a Czech-style lager or wheat beer.

Adjustment for spiciness: increase Bloody Mary mix to 4 oz for a stronger tomato presence, or reduce to 2 oz for a subtler effect. You can also muddle a pickled jalapeño slice into the Bloody Mary mix for extra heat.
