Strawberry-Mint Base
Assembly
Method
Strawberry-Mint Base
Prepare fruit and mint
Hull the strawberries and roughly chop them into quarters. Lightly rinse and pat dry the mint leaves.
Muddle
Place the chopped strawberries, mint leaves, and granulated sugar into a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker. Add the fresh lime juice. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently but firmly muddle the mixture for 20–30 seconds until the strawberries are broken down and the mint is fragrant. Do not over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness.
Strain (optional)
If you prefer a smoother drink, briefly strain the muddled mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a small measuring cup, pressing on solids to extract juices. Reserve the solids for garnish if desired. If you like a pulpy, rustic texture, skip straining and keep the muddled mixture in the glass.
Assembly
Fill glass with ice
Fill a tall serving glass (about 12–16 oz) with ice cubes until roughly 3/4 full.
Combine and top with soda
Pour the muddled strawberry-mint and lime juice mixture (strained or unstrained) over the ice. Slowly top with 240 ml chilled lemon-lime soda to preserve carbonation. Gently stir once or twice with a long spoon to incorporate layers without losing too much fizz.
Garnish and finish
Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim, a sprig of mint tucked into the drink, and a strawberry slice on the rim or floating on top. Adjust sweetness or acidity: add a dash more lime juice if you prefer brighter acidity, or 1/2 tsp simple syrup if you want it sweeter.
Serve
Serve immediately while the soda is fizzy and the mint aroma is fresh.
