Whiskey Shot

Accompaniments (optional)

Method

Whiskey Shot

1

Chill the shot glass if desired: place the empty shot glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice cubes for 30–60 seconds, then discard the ice.

2

Measure

Pour 1 shot (about 1.5 fl oz / 44 ml) of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey into the chilled shot glass.

3

If you prefer a slightly colder drink without dilution, use the previously chilled shot glass. If you want the whiskey lightly cooled and slightly diluted, add 3 ice cubes to a rocks glass and pour the whiskey over them instead.

Accompaniments (optional)

4

Prepare a lemon wedge and a small pinch of coarse salt on a napkin or small plate if using. Pour your chosen chaser (about 4 oz / 120 ml of cola or water) into a separate glass.

5

How to shoot

Hold the shot glass by the base, bring it to your mouth, tilt your head back slightly and down the bone in one smooth motion—drink the whiskey in one swallow. Immediately follow with the chaser if desired.

6

Optional ritual: lick a pinch of salt, take the shot, then suck the lemon wedge to brighten the flavor. This is a common accompaniment to certain shots but is entirely optional with straight whiskey.
