Chill all three component bottles (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon) to serving temperature for this style: 55–60°F (13–16°C). Remove from fridge 20–30 minutes before blending to allow aromas to open slightly.

Assess components

Carefully open each bottle with a corkscrew, wipe rims and inspect briefly for any off aromas. Pour a small tasting (30–60 ml) from each to confirm condition and character.

Open bottles

Using a measuring cup or a small graduated carafe, measure the proportions by volume to create a single 750 ml bottle equivalent: 52.5% Merlot (approx. 393 ml), 25% Cabernet Franc (approx. 188 ml), 22.5% Cabernet Sauvignon (approx. 169 ml).

Measure blend

Slowly pour the Merlot into a clean decanter or mixing vessel, followed by the Cabernet Franc, then the Cabernet Sauvignon. Pour gently to limit agitation and preserve delicate aromatics.

Combine

Swirl the decanter gently to integrate the three components. Use a clean glass to taste the blended wine and evaluate balance of fruit, acidity, tannin and structure. Record impressions and adjust only if absolutely necessary (small adjustments: +/- 2–3% of a component), but keep the prescribed proportions unless tailoring for personal preference.

Integrate & taste

Allow the blend to rest in the decanter for 20–60 minutes if you prefer more integrated aromatics and softer tannins. For more immediate freshness, serve after a 10–15 minute rest.

Rest (optional)

Use large-bowled Bordeaux or universal red wine glasses to concentrate aromas. Pour 120–150 ml per glass (4–5 oz). Hold the glass by the stem and swirl once before smelling and then sipping.

Glassware & pouring

Maintain serving temperature around 55–60°F (13–16°C). If the wine feels too warm, place the decanter in a cool spot for 5–10 minutes; if too cold, let it sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes.

Temperature

Serve with medium-rich proteins and earthy or savory accompaniments that complement Right Bank claret style: roasted lamb, duck breast with cherry reduction, mushroom risotto, or a charcuterie board with aged cheddar, soft-ripened cheeses, olives and cured meats. Offer plain water to refresh the palate.

Pairing suggestions

Recork or use a vacuum stopper and refrigerate upright. Consume within 3–5 days for best quality; reds may begin to lose aromatic lift after that.
