Cocktail

1

Prepare simple syrup (if not pre-made)

Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water (for example 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water) in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool completely. Store refrigerated.

2

Build and shake

Add 2 oz Monkey 47 gin, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice cubes (about 6 cubes). Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.

3

Prepare glass

Fill a rocks glass or short tumbler about three-quarters full with crushed ice (about 1 cup).

4

Strain

Double-strain the shaken cocktail over the crushed ice using a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer so the liquid chills the crushed ice without adding large shards.

5

Add crème de cassis

Slowly pour 0.5 oz crème de cassis over the top of the drink so it sinks and creates a characteristic 'bramble' swirl and layered look. If desired, use the back of a bar spoon to gently draw a couple of streaks through the drink for visual effect.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if using, 2–3 fresh blackberries skewered or dropped on top of the ice. Serve with a short straw. Encourage the drinker to stir lightly before sipping to integrate the cassis.
