Pretzel Dough

Method

Pretzel Preparation

1

Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add salt and flour, mix until a dough forms.

2

Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.

3

Shape the Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

4

Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.

5

Egg Wash and Bake

Brush the pretzels with the egg wash and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
