Method
Blueberry Purée
Cook and puree blueberries
If using frozen blueberries, thaw slightly. Combine 1 cup blueberries, 2 tsp granulated sugar, 1 tsp fresh lemon juice and 1 Tbsp water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook 3–4 minutes until berries burst and liquid thickens slightly.
Remove from heat and let cool for 2 minutes. Transfer mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender and blend until smooth. If you prefer a smoother purée, strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing solids to extract liquid. Yield should be about 3–4 oz (use 0.75 oz per cocktail). Chill briefly if still warm.
Cocktail
Prepare glass and sugar rim: Pour 1 tbsp granulated sugar onto a small plate. Run the lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled martini or coupe glass to moisten. Dip the rim into the sugar and rotate to coat evenly. Set glass aside.
Combine ingredients: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add 2 oz Bombay Sapphire gin, 0.75 oz limoncello, 0.75 oz blueberry purée, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup.
Shake: Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled. This aerates the purée and integrates ingredients for a smooth, bright martini.
Double-strain and serve: Using both the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer, pour the cocktail into the prepared sugar-rimmed martini or coupe glass to remove ice shards and any seed bits from the purée.
Garnish & Finish
Garnish: Thread 3 fresh blueberries onto a small pick or toothpick and rest across the rim or float them in the center of the martini. Optionally add a lemon twist for extra aroma.
Serve: Present immediately while cold. Provide a cocktail napkin and enjoy.
