Fresh Orange Juice
Method
Fresh Orange Juice
Prepare Oranges
Wash the oranges thoroughly under cool running water. Pat them dry with a clean towel. Roll each orange on the counter while pressing gently with your palm to loosen the juice inside.
Cut and Juice
Cut each orange in half crosswise. Using a manual citrus juicer or electric citrus press, juice all orange halves into a bowl or pitcher. If using a blender, segment the oranges (remove seeds) and pulse briefly, then strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp if you prefer a smoother juice.
Sweeten (optional)
Taste the freshly squeezed juice. If you prefer it slightly sweeter, stir in up to 1 teaspoon granulated sugar per 6 oranges, or add 1 teaspoon simple syrup. Stir until fully dissolved. If the juice is very strong, add up to 2 tablespoons cold water to adjust the intensity and mouthfeel.
Chill and Serve
Fill serving glasses with fresh ice cubes. Pour the orange juice over the ice. Garnish each glass with a mint sprig if desired. Serve immediately for best flavor.
Storage
If not serving right away, transfer the juice to an airtight container and refrigerate. Fresh orange juice is best within 24–48 hours; stir or shake before serving as separation may occur.
