Method
Hot Americano
Heat water
Bring fresh water to just under boiling (about 90–96°C / 195–205°F). Measure approximately 6 fl oz (about 180 ml) of hot water per double espresso.
Pull espresso
Grind 18–20 g of coffee to espresso fineness and tamp evenly. Pull a double espresso (2 shots) into a warmed espresso cup or small pitcher — aim for about 60 ml (2 oz) of espresso in ~25–30 seconds.
Combine
Pour the double espresso into a preheated 8–10 fl oz cup. Slowly add the 6 fl oz of hot water on top of the espresso to preserve crema and integrate flavors. Stir gently once if desired.
Finish
If desired, add sugar or simple syrup to taste and stir to dissolve. Garnish with a lemon twist or slice if preferred. Serve immediately.
Iced Americano (optional)
Prepare espresso
Pull a double espresso (2 shots) into a small pitcher or cup. For a cold drink, allow it to cool briefly (10–30 seconds) so it doesn't melt ice too quickly.
Assemble over ice
Fill a tall glass with about 6 fl oz (180 ml) of ice. Pour the double espresso over the ice, then add cold water to fill to taste (approximately 4–6 fl oz, adjust for strength).
Finish
Stir gently to combine. Add sugar or simple syrup if desired and garnish with a lemon slice. Serve with a straw.
