Method
Cocktail Base
Measure and combine spirits
Add cognac (1.5 oz), amaretto (0.5 oz), vanilla vodka (0.5 oz), and orange liqueur (0.5 oz) into a cocktail shaker.
Coffee & Citrus
Brew a fresh 1 oz shot of espresso and let it cool slightly (or use 1 oz cold-brew concentrate). Add the espresso and 0.5 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice to the shaker with the spirits.
Sweeteners & Bitters
Add 0.25 oz simple syrup and 0.25 oz bitter chocolate syrup to the shaker. These balance the bright lemon and bold coffee while adding chocolate depth.
Mixing & Chilling
Fill the shaker with ice (about 4–6 cubes), cap it, and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted. The vigorous shake helps emulsify the espresso with the spirits for a silky texture.
Strain & Serve
Double strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over one large ice cube (or serve neat in a coupe). Double straining (using a fine mesh strainer) removes foam bits from the espresso for a smooth finish.
Garnish
Express an orange twist over the drink to release oils, rub it on the rim, then drop it in. Optionally, garnish with 1–2 fresh berries or a small slice of seasonal fruit on a pick for a fresh note.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the layered flavors: cognac warmth, almond from amaretto, vanilla and citrus brightness, espresso bitterness, and a hint of chocolate.
