For one cocktail (rail vodka or gin)

Bar tools & optional items

Method

Standard shaken cocktail

1

Build & shake

Add 2 oz rail vodka or gin, 0.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup and a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker. Secure the lid.

2

Shake

Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and you see slight frost on the outside.

3

Prepare glass

If serving on the rocks, fill a rocks glass with fresh ice. For a straight-up serve, chill a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or by filling with ice water and discarding before straining.

4

Strain & garnish

Double-strain (or fine-strain if available) the cocktail into the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel on the rim.

Tall (optional highball version)

5

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add 2 oz rail vodka or gin, 0.5 oz lime juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup. Stir gently with a bar spoon to combine and chill.

6

Top with about 2 oz club soda (adjust to taste) and give one gentle stir. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve with a straw if desired.

Notes

7

Adjust citrus and sweetness to taste. For a drier drink, reduce or omit the simple syrup. For a sweeter profile, increase to 0.5 oz. Use the spirit specified (vodka or gin) depending on guest preference.
