Classic Margarita

Method

Classic Margarita

1

Prepare Glasses

Run a lime wedge around the rim of each serving glass. Spread coarse salt (or salt + chili mix) on a small plate and dip the wet rim into the salt to coat. Set glasses aside.

2

Combine Ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 6 fl oz blanco tequila, 3 fl oz fresh lime juice, 1.5 fl oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 fl oz agave syrup.

3

Shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 to 1.5 cups), secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Serve

Fill the prepared glasses with fresh ice (if serving on the rocks). Strain the margarita into the glasses. Garnish each with a lime wedge. Taste and adjust sweetness with a splash more agave if desired.

5

Notes

To make a more tart margarita, reduce agave to 0.25 fl oz. For a smoother, richer mouthfeel, use a reposado tequila in place of blanco.

Frozen Margarita (Pitcher)

6

Prep Blender

Chill the blender jar if possible. Add 20 fl oz tequila, 10 fl oz fresh lime juice, 5 fl oz orange liqueur, and 3 fl oz agave syrup to the blender.

7

Add Ice & Blend

Add 8 cups of ice. Start blending on low to incorporate, then increase speed to high and blend 30–60 seconds until smooth and slushy. If too thick, add 1–2 fl oz cold water or extra orange juice and blend briefly. If too thin, add more ice.

8

Rim & Serve

Rim glasses if desired, then pour frozen margarita into glasses. Garnish with lime wheels. Serve immediately with straws or short spoons.

Optional Variations & Serving Tips

9

Fruit Margarita (blended)

Add 2 cups chopped fresh fruit (strawberries, mango, or watermelon) to the blender along with the base frozen margarita ingredients. Blend until smooth and follow frozen margarita steps.

10

Spicy Margarita

Muddle 2–3 thin slices of jalapeño in the shaker before adding other liquid ingredients (discard seeds for less heat). Alternatively, use a salt + chili powder mix on the rim.

11

Batching & Storage

For a make-ahead cocktail mix, combine tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and agave in a sealed container and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Do not add ice until serving. Fresh lime juice is strongly recommended for bright flavor.
