Cocktail

Method

Prep the glass

1

Rim the glass

Run the lemon wedge around the outer rim of a chilled coupe or martini glass. Dip the rim lightly into a shallow dish of granulated sugar so the outside edge is evenly coated. Set the glass aside to let the sugar set while you make the cocktail.

Make the cocktail

2

Fill a cocktail shaker with the measured ice.

3

Add vodka, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and triple sec (if using) to the shaker.

4

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds—until the outside of the shaker is very cold and the mixture is well chilled and slightly frothy. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail to the proper balance.

5

Double-strain (optional) the cocktail into the prepared sugared glass using a cocktail strainer and a fine-mesh strainer to keep out ice shards and pulp. Alternatively, single-strain directly into the glass.

Garnish & serve

6

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the drink or perch a wheel on the rim. If you used a lemon wedge for rimming, discard that wedge or use a fresh twist for the garnish.

7

Serve immediately. Optional: for a slightly sweeter experience, serve with a sugar-coated lemon wedge on the side.
