Method

Cooking the Pasta

1

Boil the Water

Fill a large pot with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.

2

Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

3

Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. You can drizzle a little olive oil to prevent sticking.

Making the Sauce

4

Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

5

Sauté the Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute or until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.

6

Add the Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

7

Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

8

Add Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in the chopped fresh basil and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Combining

9

Combine Spaghetti and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce and toss until the spaghetti is evenly coated.

Serving

10

Plate and Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and additional fresh basil if desired.
