Place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5 minutes or fill it with ice and cold water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

Chill glass

In a mixing glass or shaker, combine 2 oz Jim Beam Bourbon, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Combine ingredients

Add 4-6 large ice cubes to the mixing glass (enough to properly chill and dilute). Stir vigorously for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

Add ice and stir

If you chilled the rocks glass with ice water, dump the ice water out now. Add 1-2 large fresh ice cubes to the chilled rocks glass.

Prepare serving glass

Strain the mixed bourbon cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice.

Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it with the outside facing down and giving it a quick pinch to release oils, then drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
