Sparkling Base

Method

Prepare Glass & Citrus

  1. 1

    Chill and juice

Chill a tall glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes if desired. While the glass chills, roll a lime and a lemon on the counter with the palm of your hand to release oils, then juice enough to yield about 2 tablespoons lime juice and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Measure and keep juices chilled.

  2. 2

If using simple syrup from the fridge, stir it briefly so it pours easily. Have garnishes (lime wheel and optional lemon zest strip) ready.

Build the Drink

  1. 3

Fill the chilled glass with about 1 cup of ice.

  2. 4

Pour the 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice over the ice.

  3. 5

Add 2 teaspoons chilled simple syrup to the glass. If you prefer a sweeter Sprite-style drink, increase to 1 tablespoon (adjust to taste).

  4. 6

Pour in 2 cups chilled club soda and 1 cup chilled sparkling water. Pour gently to preserve carbonation; stir once gently with a bar spoon to combine — 2–3 slow turns.

  5. 7

Taste and adjust: if you want it sweeter, add an extra 1/2–1 teaspoon simple syrup and stir gently; for a brighter citrus punch, add 1/2 teaspoon more lime juice.

Finish & Serve

  1. 8

Express a strip of lemon zest over the drink (optional) to release oils, then drop it in or discard according to preference.

  2. 9

Garnish the rim with a lime wheel or wedge. Serve immediately while fizzy.
