Syrup & Garnish

Method

Prepare Glass & Garnish

  1. 1

    Chill and Prepare

Select a highball or tall Collins glass and chill it briefly if desired (place in freezer 5–10 minutes). Place the maraschino cherries on a small plate or keep them in their syrup for garnish.

Mix Drink

  1. 2

    Add Ice

Fill the chilled glass with ice cubes, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.

  2. 3

    Add Grenadine

Pour 2 tablespoons of grenadine syrup over the ice. This will settle toward the bottom and create the signature layered look.

  3. 4

    Add Carbonation

Carefully pour 1 cup chilled ginger ale into the glass, followed by 1/2 cup chilled lemon-lime soda. Pour slowly to preserve some fizz and the visual layering.

  4. 5

    Brighten

Add 1/2 teaspoon fresh lime juice to round out the sweetness and add brightness. Stir gently once or twice with a long spoon to combine flavors while keeping some layered appearance.

  5. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Thread the maraschino cherry (use one or two) onto a cocktail pick or drop them into the glass. Optionally add a thin lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw.
