Ingredients

Soda Base

Finish & Garnish

Preparation

Prepare Soda Base

1. Combine sweet components

In a small mixing glass or measuring cup, stir together the vanilla syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and (if using) light corn syrup until thoroughly combined and smooth. The condensed milk adds body and creaminess; the corn syrup helps integrate it with the carbonated water.

2. Assemble over ice

Place ice cubes in a tall serving glass. Pour the sweetened mixture over the ice, then slowly pour the cold seltzer (or club soda) down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to combine without flattening the soda.

Finish & Garnish

3. Top with cream

Lightly whip the heavy cream just until it thickens slightly (it should still pour). Spoon or gently float the cream on top of the soda to create a creamy layer. This gives the drink a classic cream-soda mouthfeel.

4. Garnish and flavor

If desired, add a few drops of vanilla extract or a light dusting (about 1/4 tsp) of freshly grated nutmeg over the cream for aroma. Finish with a maraschino cherry on top and a mint sprig alongside the cherry for color and a fresh scent.

5. Serve immediately with a straw. Before drinking, gently stir to incorporate the creamy top with the soda, or sip through the cream layer for a richer experience.
