Aperol Sprite Cocktail

Method

Aperol Sprite Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

If you prefer a very cold drink, place your serving glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you assemble ingredients, then discard the ice water before building the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Fill glass with ice

Fill a highball or large rocks glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice (approximately 1 cup).

  3. 3

    Measure and pour Aperol

Pour 2 oz Aperol over the ice. Aperol is the bitter-sweet, orange-flavored base of the drink.

  4. 4

    Add lemon juice

Add 0.5 oz (about 15 ml) fresh lemon juice to brighten the cocktail. If you prefer less tartness, reduce to 0.25–0.3 oz.

  5. 5

    Top with Sprite

Gently pour 4 oz lemon-lime soda (Sprite) into the glass. Pour slowly to preserve carbonation and achieve a light swirl with the Aperol.

  6. 6

    Stir lightly

Using a bar spoon or stirrer, stir the cocktail once or twice to combine ingredients without flattening the soda.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Garnish with 1 orange slice and, if using, a lemon wheel and 1–2 sprigs of fresh mint. Clap the mint between your hands briefly (optional) to release aroma before placing it in the glass.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately while the drink is cold and fizzy. Provide a straw if desired.
