Tots

Cajun Butter (optional finishing)

Method

Tots

1

Preheat and prepare

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) if baking. Line a baking sheet with parchment or lightly oil a rimmed sheet. If frying, heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C) in a heavy pot.

2

Arrange tots

Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet leaving small gaps between each tot to allow hot air circulation. If frying, do not overcrowd the pot — fry in batches.

3

Cook until crisp

Bake tots for 20–25 minutes, turning once halfway through, until golden brown and crisp. If frying, cook 3–5 minutes per batch until crisp and golden; drain on paper towels.

Cajun Seasoning

4

While tots cook, combine paprika, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, cayenne, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl and mix thoroughly to make a uniform Cajun seasoning blend.

5

When tots are hot and just out of the oven or fryer, immediately transfer them to a large bowl. Sprinkle the prepared Cajun seasoning over the tots while tossing gently to coat evenly. The heat helps the spices adhere.

Cajun Butter (optional finishing)

6

If using the butter finish: melt unsalted butter in a small skillet over low heat, add minced garlic and cook 30–45 seconds until fragrant (do not brown). Remove from heat, stir in lemon juice and chopped parsley.

7

Drizzle the warm Cajun butter over the seasoned tots and toss gently to glaze. This adds shine and richness.

Dipping Sauce (optional)

8

Mix mayonnaise, hot sauce, 1/2 tsp Creole/Cajun seasoning, and lemon juice in a small bowl until smooth. Taste and adjust heat or seasoning as desired. Serve chilled alongside the hot tots.

To Serve

9

Transfer seasoned tots to a platter or basket lined with paper towel. Garnish with extra chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately with the dipping sauce.
