Preparation Steps
Chill the Glass
Begin by chilling your martini glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.
Mix the Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz of gin and 1 oz of dry vermouth.
Add Ice
Fill the shaker with 1 cup of ice cubes. This will help chill and dilute the mixture as you shake.
Shake or Stir
For a classic martini, you can either shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds or stir it gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds, depending on your preference for a chilled or a slightly diluted drink.
Strain into Glass
Discard the ice water from the chilled glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass using a fine mesh strainer.
Garnish
Garnish your martini with either an olive or a twist of lemon peel, depending on your taste.
Serve
Serve immediately and enjoy your classic martini!
