Negroni
Method
Negroni
Chill glass (optional)
If desired, place the serving glass (Old Fashioned / rocks glass) in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Measure and pour
Into a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker without a lid, add 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth.
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with about 6 large ice cubes. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–25 turns) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for a cold, silky texture without over-diluting.
Prepare serving glass
If you chilled the glass with ice and water, dump out the water and ice. Place a single large ice cube in the serving glass.
Strain
Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared serving glass over the large ice cube.
Express orange oil and garnish
Take an orange peel and hold it skin-side down over the drink. Gently bend/express the peel to spray the oils over the surface, then rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink as a garnish.
Serve
Serve immediately. Optionally provide a stirring straw so the guest can adjust dilution while drinking.
