Method
Prepare Espresso
Pull espresso
Brew two shots of espresso (about 60 ml total) using your espresso machine. Use fresh, finely ground coffee and pull the shots directly into a small cup. If you don't have an espresso machine, use 60 ml strong brewed coffee (concentrated) as a substitute.
Cool slightly
Let the espresso sit 20–30 seconds to reduce surface temperature so it doesn't melt the ice too quickly and dilute excessively.
Assemble Drink
Fill a 12–16 oz serving glass with about 1 cup (approximately 120–150 g) of ice cubes, leaving some headspace for liquid.
If you want sweetened iced americano, add 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or your preferred sweetener to taste) to the glass over the ice. Stir briefly to combine so the sweetener distributes through the drink.
Pour the two fresh espresso shots over the ice.
Add 6 oz (about 180 ml) of cold water to the glass. Stir gently to combine espresso, water, and any sweetener. Taste and adjust: add more water for a milder flavor, or more sweetener if desired.
