Pizza Dough

Method

Making the Dough

1

Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2

Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

3

Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4

Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Assembling and Baking

5

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

6

Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it back to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.

7

Add Tomato Sauce

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment paper-lined pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch around the edges.

8

Add Cheese

Tear the fresh mozzarella into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the tomato sauce.

9

Season

Drizzle olive oil over the top and sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.

10

Bake the Pizza

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

11

Garnish and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Allow to cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
