Method
Tea Base
- 1
Boil water
Pour 2 cups of cold, fresh water into a kettle or small saucepan. Bring the water to a full boil over medium-high heat.
- 2
Steep tea
If using loose tea: place 2 tsp black tea leaves into an infuser or teapot. If using tea bags: put 2 tea bags into a cup or teapot. Pour the just-boiled water over the tea. Cover the cup or pot to keep heat in and steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on desired strength (3 min for lighter, 5 min for strong).
- 3
Remove tea
After steeping, remove the tea leaves or tea bags to avoid over-extraction and bitterness. If spices or ginger were added to the pot while steeping, strain them out at this point.
Optional Add-ins

- 5
Sweeten
Add 1 tsp sweetener (adjust to taste). Stir until dissolved. Use honey for a floral note or sugar/simple syrup for neutral sweetness.

Spices
To make a spiced version, bruise 1–2 cardamom pods or add a small piece of cinnamon stick to the water as it heats. Remove the whole spices when you strain the tea.
- 8
Serve
Pour the hot tea into cups. Taste and adjust sweetness or milk. Serve immediately while hot.
