Prep
Optional: rim the glass
If you prefer a salted rim, run the lime wedge around the edge of a rocks glass, then dip the rim into coarse salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
Measure out all spirits and mixers so they are ready to pour into the shaker.
Mixing
Combine ingredients
Fill the cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with ice. Add 2 oz Tito's Handmade Vodka, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.25 oz orange liqueur (if using).
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the drink to balance flavors.
Strain and serve
Using the strainer, pour the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or double-strain into a chilled coupe for a neat presentation.
Finish
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Taste and, if desired, adjust by adding a splash more simple syrup (to sweeten) or a few drops of lime (to brighten). Serve immediately.
