Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz vodka, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup. If making a cranberry variation, also add 1 oz cranberry juice. If you want a citrus-sweet edge, add 0.5 oz orange liqueur.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with cocktail ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the exterior is frosted.
Prepare glass and strain
Discard ice/water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass over fresh ice if you prefer it on the rocks; otherwise, strain neat (without ice) into the chilled glass.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish the drink with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. If using the cranberry variation, float 2–3 fresh cranberries on top for a festive touch.
Serve immediately. Sip and adjust future batches to taste (more simple syrup for sweetness, more lime for brightness, or more cranberry for fruitiness).
