Method
Bread & Serving
Preheat and prepare
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. Place the French bread on the prepared sheet.
Slice and present: Using a serrated knife, slice the loaf in half lengthwise. If you prefer pull-apart pieces, cut the halves into 4–6 large segments after baking. Place marinara in a small oven-safe ramekin and set beside the bread on the sheet for warming during baking.
Garlic Butter
Make garlic butter
In a medium bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, olive oil, kosher salt, black pepper, and 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined. Taste and adjust salt or garlic if desired.
Assemble & Bake
Add cheese
Evenly distribute the 5-cheese blend over the buttered cut sides of the bread. Press lightly so the cheese makes good contact with the buttered surface. Reserve a small sprinkle (about 1 tablespoon) of Parmesan to add after baking if you like an extra crusty top.
Warm marinara
Place the ramekin of marinara on the baking sheet near the bread so it warms as the bread bakes. If you prefer, spoon 1–2 tablespoons of marinara over one half before baking for a saucier variation (this is optional).
Bake until golden
Bake in the preheated oven for 10–14 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling. For a golden-brown, slightly crisp top, switch the oven to broil on high for 1–2 minutes while watching closely to prevent burning.
Finish
Remove from oven. If reserved, sprinkle the remaining Parmesan over the hot cheese and let rest 1–2 minutes. If you cut the loaf into segments before serving, do so now. Transfer to a serving board or plate.
Serve
Serve hot with the warmed marinara on the side for dipping. Recommend serving immediately for best texture (crispy edges, gooey cheese).
