Method

Base & Sweetener

  1. 1

    Measure

Measure 2 oz vodka (or substitute), 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Add these to a cocktail shaker.

Fruit & Flavor

  1. 2

    Muddle

Place 6 fresh raspberries and 6 fresh mint leaves in the shaker. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle until the raspberries are broken down and the mint releases aroma β€” about 8–10 firm presses. Avoid over-muddling the mint which makes it bitter.

  2. 3

Add ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker after muddling.

Shake & Finish

  1. 4

    Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker chills and small ice shards form.

  2. 5

    Double-strain

Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled highball or coupe glass to remove raspberry seeds and mint bits. This yields a smooth drink.

  3. 6

    Top with sparkle

Top the strained cocktail with about 2 oz club soda (adjust to taste) to add lift and effervescence. Gently stir once to incorporate.

  4. 7

    Garnish & Serve

Finish with a lemon wheel or twist on the rim and drop one fresh raspberry on top. Serve immediately while fizzy.
