Ice Cream Options (choose one or more)
Optional Garnishes (per serving)
Tools
Method
Plating a Single Scoop
Chill serving dish (optional)
Place the serving bowl or dessert plate in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before plating to help the ice cream hold its shape longer, especially on hot days.
Soften ice cream slightly
Remove the selected ice cream tub from the freezer 2–3 minutes before scooping so it becomes slightly easier to scoop but not melted. If very hard, run the scoop under warm water and dry it before scooping.
Scoop
Using the ice cream scoop, dig in and form one rounded scoop. Tap the scoop gently on the edge of the tub to release the ice cream, or use the scoop's release if it has one. Place the scoop in the center or at the desired spot on the dessert/plate.
Arrange complementary garnishes
Add garnishes that complement the chosen flavor: for Sweet Red Bean, spoon 1 tbs of sweet red bean (anko) beside the scoop and sprinkle 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds; for Green Tea, dust 1 tsp matcha over the scoop and add a mint leaf; for Mango Sherbet, fan 3 fresh mango slices beside the scoop and drizzle 1 tbs mango or caramel sauce if desired; for Lychee Sherbet, place 3 peeled fresh lychees beside the scoop and drizzle 1 tbs lychee syrup or a light caramel if available.
Add texture
Place a waffle crisp or biscuit (1 piece) leaning against the scoop for crunch, and sprinkle 1 tsp toasted flaked coconut if using mango sherbet. Adjust garnishes to taste.
Serve immediately
Serve the plated dessert immediately to ensure the ice cream maintains its texture. Provide a spoon and napkin.
Pairing with Other Desserts
Pies and tarts: place the scoop on or beside a warm slice of pie or tart. For mango or lychee sherbet, place scoop next to the slice; for green tea or red bean, consider a dollop on top or beside to contrast temperatures and flavors.
Hot desserts (tempura, fritters, warm cakes): serve the scoop immediately alongside the warm item so guests get the hot-and-cold contrast. Use sauces sparingly so the ice cream doesn’t melt too quickly.
Cold desserts (crepes, mochi, chilled cakes): set the scoop on top or beside. For mochi, press the scoop gently so the mochi cradles the ice cream without flattening it.
Sundae-style addition: for an a la carte dessert add-on, present the scoop with two simple garnishes (one sauce and one texture). For example, Green Tea scoop + sweet red bean (1 tbs) + matcha dusting (1 tsp); Mango Sherbet + mango slices + waffle crisp.
