Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink is served well chilled.

2

Add Capitol Vodka (2 oz), homemade orangello (1 oz), fresh organic lemon juice (0.5 oz) and simple syrup (0.5 oz) to a cocktail shaker.

3

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and cap it. Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail to balance flavors.

4

Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using both a shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice chips and any pulp from the lemon juice.

Garnish

5

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the glass and giving it a firm twist, then either drop a thin twist into the drink or place a fresh orange wheel on the rim.

6

Serve immediately, up (no ice in the glass).
