Margarita Mix (batch for 4 cups)
To Serve (makes 8-10 single 4–5 oz servings)
Box Packing / Extras (optional)
Method
Make the Simple Syrup (if not using store-bought)
Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan (for this recipe, use 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup water). Heat over medium, stirring until sugar fully dissolves and liquid is clear. Do not boil vigorously. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature before using or refrigerating.
Prepare Margarita Mix
Measure and Combine
In a large measuring pitcher or bowl, combine 1 cup fresh lime juice, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, 3/4 cup cooled simple syrup, 1/2 cup cold water and 1/4 cup nonalcoholic triple sec (or orange cordial). Stir until fully incorporated.
Adjust Sweetness & Acidity
Taste the mix. If it is too tart, add up to 2 tablespoons additional simple syrup. If too sweet, add 1 to 2 tablespoons extra lime juice. Remember the flavors will mellow when chilled and when served over ice.
Add Salt
Stir in 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt to round out the flavors and enhance the citrus. Mix thoroughly until dissolved.
Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate the margarita mix for at least 30 minutes or until cold. For best flavor, chill up to 4 hours. Transfer to a squeeze bottle or airtight jar if packing into a box.
Rimming Glasses & Garnish Prep
Prepare rimming salt: Pour 1/4 cup coarse/margarita salt onto a shallow plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass to moisten, then dip the rim into the salt while twisting to coat evenly. Set glasses aside on a tray.
Prepare garnishes: Cut remaining limes into wedges and orange into thin wheels or half-wheels. Place mint sprigs in a small sealed bag if packing in a box.
Assembly (Single Serving)
Add Mix
Pour 4 ounces (about 1/2 cup) of chilled margarita mix into each glass over the ice. If you prefer a lighter, fizzy drink, top with 1 to 2 tablespoons (up to 1/4 cup) club soda or sparkling water.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and an optional orange slice and mint sprig. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring pick.
Packing the Virgin Margarita Box
Pour the chilled margarita mix into a clean airtight bottle or jar, label with 'Virgin Margarita Mix' and include refrigeration instructions (keep chilled up to 5 days). Place the sealed jar/bottle in the box along with a small container of rimming salt, a bag of pre-cut garnishes (lime wedges and orange wheels), mint sprigs, ice instructions (recommend freezing ice packs), and the instruction card showing how to rim, pour and garnish. Include mini salt packets for convenience.
Instructions for recipient: Keep mix refrigerated. To serve, rim glasses with lime and salt, fill with ice, pour 4 oz mix per glass, optionally top with sparkling water, garnish and enjoy.
