Prepare Glass
Rim the glass
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks or coupe glass. Spread the coarse salt or sanding sugar on a small plate and dip the wet rim into it to coat evenly. Set the glass aside in the refrigerator or on the counter to chill while you mix the cocktail.
Mix Cocktail
Add tequila, dry orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with ice (use the cubed ice listed).
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes to the correct level.
Double strain (optional) into the prepared chilled glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or without ice for a up/coupe presentation. Double straining removes small ice chips and pulp from fresh lime juice for a cleaner texture.
Finish & Garnish
Carefully float the Grand Marnier on top: pour the 0.25 oz slowly over the back of a bar spoon held just above the drink surface so the liqueur layers gently instead of mixing in.
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim (or floated briefly on the surface) and serve immediately.
