Margarita Mix (base for 8–10 servings)
Box Pack (to include with the mix)
Method
Make the Margarita Mix
Juice the citrus
Roll limes and lemons on the counter to loosen juices. Cut and juice enough limes to yield 2 cups (about 12–14 medium limes) and lemons to yield 1/4 cup (about 1–2 lemons). Strain the juices through a fine mesh sieve into a measuring cup to remove pulp and seeds.
Prepare simple syrup
If you don't have prepared simple syrup, make 1 cup by combining 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Combine liquids
In a large bowl or pitcher, combine 2 cups fresh lime juice, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, 1 cup triple sec, 2 cups blanco tequila, 1 cup cooled simple syrup, and 2 tablespoons agave nectar (if using). Whisk or stir vigorously until fully combined.
Adjust sweetness & balance
Taste the mix. The flavor should be bright and tart with a balanced sweetness. If it's too tart, add up to 2 additional tablespoons simple syrup or agave, tasting after each addition. If too sweet, add an extra tablespoon of lime juice.
Strain & bottle
For a smooth, shelf-stable presentation, strain the combined mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean funnel and pour into the zip-top bottle or airtight jar. Seal tightly.
Chill
Refrigerate the bottle for at least 1 hour before packing if possible. The mix will keep refrigerated for up to 5 days. If shipping or transporting without refrigeration, keep the bottle chilled with ice packs and consume within 24 hours.
Assemble the Margarita Box
Place the sealed bottle of margarita mix into the box along with the small packet of coarse salt, lime wedges (wrapped or in a small sealed container), the funnel (if included), and the printed instructions card.
How to Serve (instructions for recipient)
Classic on the rocks (per margarita)
Fill a cocktail shaker or glass with ice. Measure 3/4 cup (6 fl oz / 180 ml) of the prepared margarita mix per serving. If you prefer a stronger margarita, use 2/3 cup mix + 1 oz additional tequila. Stir or shake with ice until well chilled (10–15 seconds).
Salt the rim (optional)
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Dip the rim into the provided coarse salt to coat. Discard excess salt.
Serve
Strain or pour the chilled margarita over fresh ice in the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy immediately.
