Guacamole Base

Method

Prepare Ingredients

1

Halve and pit avocados

Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, twist to separate the halves, and remove the pit. Scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl.

2

Dice and chop

Finely dice the red onion and tomato. Seed the jalapeño (leave seeds in for more heat) and mince finely. Mince the garlic clove. Chop the cilantro leaves and tender stems.

3

Squeeze fresh lime juice into a small bowl and measure salt, pepper, and optional cumin so they're ready to add.

Mix and Season

4

Mash avocado

Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocado in the bowl to your desired texture: leave it slightly chunky for texture or mash smoother for a creamier guacamole. Stop when you reach a mostly creamy consistency with some small chunks remaining.

5

Add aromatics

Add the finely diced red onion, minced jalapeño, minced garlic, diced tomato, and chopped cilantro to the mashed avocado.

6

Season

Pour in the 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, then add 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and the optional 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin if using. Gently fold everything together until evenly combined. Taste and adjust seasoning: add more salt, lime juice, or jalapeño as needed.

Finish and Serve

7

Transfer guacamole to a serving bowl. If desired, drizzle 1 teaspoon olive oil over the top and sprinkle a few extra cilantro leaves for garnish.

8

Serve immediately with tortilla chips or fresh vegetables. For short-term storage, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to limit air contact and refrigerate up to 24 hours; stir briefly before serving.

9

Serve additional lime wedges alongside for guests to add extra brightness.
