Cocktail

Method

Prep & Rim

  1. 1

    Prepare glass rim

Chill a rocks or coupe/margarita glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill with ice water for 1–2 minutes, then discard. Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of the glass (or the entire rim if preferred). Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate and dip the moistened rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.

Mixing

  1. 2

Fill a cocktail shaker with the ice. Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup to the shaker.

  2. 3

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well-chilled. Shaking both chills and dilutes to the correct balance.

  3. 4

If you prefer a smoother, slightly fruitier Margarita, add 0.25 oz fresh orange juice to the shaker before shaking (optional). For flavored variations, include 0.5 oz flavored syrup or 0.5 oz muddled fruit and adjust sweetener to taste.

Serve

  1. 5

Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice (if serving on the rocks) or leave empty for a shaken, up-style serve. Strain the cocktail from the shaker into the glass using a fine strainer if desired to catch small ice shards or pulp.

  2. 6

Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated in the drink. Serve immediately.
