Cocktail Base

Method

Berry Purée

1

Make blueberry purée (if not pre-made)

Place 3/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries in a blender or food processor with 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp simple syrup. Pulse until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh sieve into a small bowl to remove skins. Yield approximately 2 oz. Reserve 1 oz for the cocktail and refrigerate any remainder.

Muddling & Building

2

In a cocktail shaker, add the 6 fresh blackberries and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Muddle vigorously until the berries are mostly broken down and release their juices (15–20 seconds). This extracts color, aroma, and flavor.

3

Add 2 oz Tito's Vodka, 0.75 oz triple sec, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 1 oz blood orange juice, and 1 oz blueberry purée to the shaker with the muddled blackberries.

4

Fill the shaker with ice (about 6–8 large cubes or enough to chill) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold.

Straining & Serving

5

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp. If you prefer a more rustic presentation, single-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.

6

Garnish with 2 fresh blackberries skewered on a cocktail pick and a thin blood orange wheel on the rim. Optionally, lightly brush the blood orange wheel with the leftover blueberry purée for a marbled look.

7

Serve immediately. Taste and add up to 0.25 oz additional simple syrup if you prefer it sweeter.
