Shake & Build

Method

Shake & Build

1

Prepare glass

Chill an old-fashioned or rocks glass by filling it with ice and setting aside while you mix the cocktail.

2

Combine spirits and modifiers

In a cocktail shaker, add vodka, gin, tequila, white rum, blended scotch, bourbon, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters.

3

Add egg white (optional)

If using egg white for body and foam, add 1/2 egg white to the shaker. This is optional but recommended for a smoother mouthfeel.

4

Dry shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 10–15 seconds to emulsify the egg white and combine ingredients (skip dry shake if not using egg white).

5

Wet shake with ice

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Shake hard for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the exterior is frosted.

6

Prepare serving glass

Discard the chilling ice from the glass. If you prefer, add a single large ice cube or fill with fresh ice.

7

Strain

Double-strain the mixture into the prepared glass over the large ice cube (or fresh ice) using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and egg white solids for a smooth finish.

Garnish & Serve

8

Express a lemon twist over the cocktail to release oils, then drop it in or add a cocktail cherry for a sweeter accent. Serve immediately with a short straw if desired.

9

Enjoy responsibly. This is a high-ABV drink combining many base spirits—sip slowly.
