Method

Prep Aromatics

1

Bruise cardamom & oil rosemary

Lightly crush the 2 cardamom pods with the back of a spoon to release aroma. Clap the rosemary sprig between your palms or gently slap it on the counter to release its oils and fragrance.

2

Prepare a cucumber ribbon by running a vegetable peeler down the length of a peeled or unpeeled cucumber to produce 3 long, thin ribbons. Set aside. Cut one lime wheel for garnish.

Build Cocktail

3

Combine base ingredients

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.5 oz simple syrup.

4

Add aromatics to shaker

Add the bruised cardamom pods and the rosemary sprig to the shaker. Do not add tonic yet. Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill) and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds to chill and gently infuse the spirit with the aromatics.

5

Strain into a highball or large rocks glass filled with fresh ice, using a fine strainer to catch cardamom fragments and rosemary bits.

Finish & Garnish

6

Top with tonic

Slowly pour 4 oz chilled tonic water down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and lightly lift the gin mix into the tonic. Stir gently once with a bar spoon (1–2 slow rotations).

7

Add the cucumber ribbons and lime wheel as garnish. Optionally tuck the rosemary sprig into the glass for aroma. Serve immediately.
