Method
Prepare and build
Chill glass and ingredients
Place a large wine glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you prepare the other components. Ensure Prosecco and soda are well chilled.
Add ice
Fill the chilled wine glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes (roughly 1 cup).
Pour Aperol
Measure and pour 3 oz Aperol directly over the ice. Pouring first helps the colors layer and then integrate as you add the other ingredients.
Top with soda
Add 1 oz chilled soda water to the glass. Pour slowly to maintain bubbles and to achieve the traditional 3-3-1 ratio (Aperol:Prosecco:soda).
Optional sweetness adjustment
If you prefer a sweeter spritz, stir in about 1/4 teaspoon simple syrup and gently stir once to combine. Alternatively, increase Aperol by 1/2 oz for a more bitter profile.
Garnish and serve
Give the cocktail a very gentle stir (one or two slow turns) to integrate the layers while preserving carbonation.
Garnish with 1 fresh orange slice placed on the rim or floated in the drink.
Serve immediately with a straw or cocktail pick if desired. Recommend serving at once while cold and effervescent.
