Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

1

Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

2

Layer the Filo Pastry

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13 inch baking pan with melted butter. Lay one sheet of filo pastry in the pan and brush with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering and brushing each sheet with butter, until you have 8 sheets stacked.

3

Add the Nut Mixture

Spread a layer of the nut mixture over the filo pastry. Continue layering by adding 4 more sheets of filo, brushing each with butter, followed by another layer of the nut mixture. Repeat the process until all the filling is used, finishing with 8 sheets of filo on top.

4

Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes, ensuring you cut all the way through the layers.

5

Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until the baklava is golden brown.

6

Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

7

Soak the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over it, ensuring it seeps into the cuts. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
