Shrimp Preparation

Method

Marinating the Shrimp

1

In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate.

Preparing the Breading Mixture

2

In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Breading the Shrimp

3

Remove shrimp from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure it sticks. Shake off excess and place on a tray.

Frying

4

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).

5

Fry shrimp in batches, about 2-3 minutes per batch or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the fryer.

6

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

7

Serve the fried shrimp hot in a basket lined with parchment paper, alongside French fries if desired.

8

Garnish with lemon wedges and chopped parsley. Serve with tartar sauce or cocktail sauce on the side.
