Method
Prep & Rim
Chill and prepare fishbowl
If possible, chill the 51 oz fishbowl or large serving glass in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes to keep the cocktail cold longer. Place a large amount of ice in the bottom of the bowl so the final combined liquid will sit well chilled.
Prepare lime and salt rim (optional)
If salting the rim, pour the coarse salt onto a small plate. Run a lime half along the rim of the fishbowl, then dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the bowl aside on a tray to catch any overflow.
Make the Margarita Mix
In a 2–3 quart pitcher or mixing container, combine 12 oz silver tequila, 6 oz orange liqueur, 6 oz fresh lime juice, and 12 oz sour mix. Stir briefly to blend.
Add 8 oz prickly pear syrup to the pitcher and stir until incorporated. The prickly pear adds a bright magenta color and sweet cactus-fruit flavor.
Fold in 6 oz strawberry puree to add body, fruitiness, and a layered color. Stir gently to combine but allow some visual streaking if you want a gradient effect in the bowl.
Taste the mixture and, if desired, add up to 6 oz cold water or club soda to reach the desired dilution and brightness (especially if the sour mix or syrup makes the drink too sweet or intense). Adjust balance with more lime juice (in 0.5 oz increments) or simple syrup/prickly pear syrup if needed.
Assemble in Fishbowl
Fill the chilled fishbowl about three-quarters full with the 51 oz of ice (large cubes or block pieces keep dilution slow).
Pour the prepared margarita mix over the ice in the fishbowl, leaving a little headspace for garnishes and stirring.
Garnish & Serve
Float lime halves or thin lime wheels on top of the cocktail for visual appeal. Tuck a few lime wedges around the edge of the bowl for guests to squeeze into their drinks.
Place the cleaned rubber duckies on top as whimsical décor — ensure they are sanitized and safe for non-consumption contact. Use 1–2 duckies per fishbowl.
Serve immediately with long straws and small ladles or large spoons so guests can help themselves. Provide extra lime wedges and small cocktail glasses if you prefer to pre-pour portions.
