Method
Prep — Rim & Glass
Prepare the glass
Choose a coupe or rocks glass. Run the lime wedge around the rim. Spread the coarse salt or sugar on a small plate and dip the rim to coat. Set the glass in the freezer for 3–5 minutes while you mix the cocktail to chill it and set the rim.
Mixing the Cocktail
Combine base ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add blanco tequila (2 oz), elderflower liqueur (0.75 oz), orange liqueur (0.5 oz), fresh lime juice (1 oz), fresh grapefruit juice (0.5 oz), and agave syrup (0.5 tbsp).
Add floral notes
Add rose water (2 tsp) and orange blossom water (0.25 tsp, optional) to the shaker. These are potent — measure carefully to avoid overpowering the cocktail.
Shake with ice
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosty on the outside.
Double-strain
Double-strain the mixture (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into the chilled prepared glass. This removes ice shards and any floral particulates for a clean presentation.
Garnish & Serve
Express the grapefruit twist over the drink to release its oils, then drop it in as garnish. Alternatively, nestle an edible flower on the surface for a showy presentation. Serve immediately.
