Cocktail
Chill glass
Place the martini or coupe glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail (about 5 minutes).
Add spirits and modifiers
Add 2.5 oz vodka and 0.5 oz dry vermouth to the muddled cucumber. If you prefer a slightly sweeter or brighter drink, add 0.25 oz simple syrup and/or 0.25 oz fresh lime juice. These are optional and adjust to taste.
Ice and mix
Add 4–6 ice cubes to the shaker. If you used a cocktail shaker, cap and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled (shaking will give a slightly aerated texture). If you prefer a clearer martini, transfer contents to a mixing glass with ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds.
Double strain and serve
Empty the chilled glass of ice water (if used). Using the cocktail strainer and a fine strainer (optional), strain the mixture into the chilled martini or coupe glass to remove cucumber solids and ice shards for a smooth drink.
Tools/Finish
Rinse and dry tools after use. If making multiple cocktails, scale ingredients and prepare a batch by muddling cucumber in a mixing pitcher, then add spirits and chill before serving.
