Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass
Rub the lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Place the coarse salt on a small plate and dip the moistened rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
Measure and combine
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec), and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer slightly sweeter balance.
Add ice and shake
Add about 1 cup of ice to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds (until the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted).
Strain and serve
If serving 'up' (no ice in glass): double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled coupe or rocks glass. If serving on the rocks: fill the salted glass with about 1/2 cup fresh ice and strain cocktail over the ice.
Garnish
Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated on the drink. Serve immediately.
Notes
Adjust simple syrup from 0–0.5 oz to taste depending on tartness of limes and desired sweetness. For a frozen margarita, blend the measured ingredients with 1 to 1.5 cups of ice until smooth.
