Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build and Stir

Add 1.5 oz New Amsterdam London Dry Gin, 1.0 oz Lo-Hi sweet vermouth, 1.0 oz Luxardo Bitter Bianco, and 2 dashes grapefruit bitters into a mixing glass filled with plenty of ice.

  2. 2

Stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until well chilled and slightly diluted — the exterior of the mixing glass should be cold and lightly frosted.

  3. 3

Place a large ice cube into a chilled old-fashioned (rocks) glass. Strain the stirred cocktail over the ice cube using a Hawthorne or julep strainer to remove shards.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 4

    Express and Garnish

Hold a grapefruit peel over the glass, skin side down, about 2–3 inches above the drink. Give the peel a firm squeeze to express the oils over the surface, then rub the peel’s exterior around the rim of the glass. Drop the peel into the drink as a garnish.

  2. 5

Optional: Add a second thin grapefruit wheel or a twisted peel on a cocktail pick for presentation.
